Successful Premiere at the Ärztetage in Grado

In early June, Brigit Hochreiter and I held our seminar “Patient Conversations and Cultural Boundaries” at the Ärztetage in Grado for the first time. The seminar teaches in a practical way how intercultural misunderstandings arise in healthcare, how they affect communication between patients and medical staff, and how they can be avoided. Successful communication is the foundation of trust, precise diagnosis and successful treatment — and intercultural competence is becoming increasingly important in everyday medical practice.

The Migration Debate: A Call for Differentiation

For more than three decades, the migration debate in Europe has been shaped primarily by right-wing parties. The left often responds not with an independent analysis, but simply by propagating the exact opposite of the right's arguments. That does not get us anywhere. Medicine Across Cultural Boundaries

This is particularly difficult when patients come from different cultural backgrounds. Every culture has its own approach to pain, illness, the role of the family and adherence to therapies. A new seminar on intercultural patient conversations now offers doctors and medical practice staff practical guidance.

A pilot seminar on intercultural communication in conversations with patients was met with great approval by participants in Graz on 11 January. Transcultural Campaigning has now developed a half-day training module in collaboration with Birgit Hochreiter Consulting that provides explanatory patterns and practical tips.
