In Touch with Refugees in MENA Region

Earlier this year, Transcultural Campaigning finalised a comprehensive mapping of tools and practices applied for communicating with Communities (CwC)  in  10 UNHCR operations (Algeria Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey and Yemen).

This study was conducted for UNHCR in order to explore “the current state and way forward for Communication with Communities and Outreach in MENA. It covers use and acceptance of:

  • face-to-face communication,
  • traditional CwC tools (including print, audio-visual tools and telephony
  • digital CwC (social network and hybrid forms of communication

The findings were obtained through a mix of methods including a desk review, an online survey and follow up interviews with UNHCR, authorities and partner organizations, in-depth interviews with over 90 refugees and asylum seekers from eight countries as well consultations with key informants.

The study is completed by a set of recommendations. A summary of the study has now been released and can be accessed here.
