How does one efficiently inform asylum seekers who speak different languages, have different levels of literacy and are under incredible stress? Melita H. Sunjic from Transcultural Campaigning had the privilege to lead a multinational team of experts developing a hands on training program for the European Asylum Support Office EASO. See Video below.
The training was developed over a few months, taking into consideration practical field experience of asylum officers as well as modern adult teaching method. The result is a 1 ½ day training course. It is interactive, practical and is of immediate use to officials deployed to the asylum hotspots along Europe’s southern borders. The pilot training took place in Malta on 2 and 3 July. The participants said they had fun and learned a lot. The best possible outcome for a teaching module.
The highlight was a board game, developed specifically for this training. It is fun to play and before they know it, participants have learned about the suitability of different communication channels for different target audiences and communication situations.
